length: 15 1/2" wingspan: 9" scale: 1/35.5 Includes desk stand. Britsh Sea Harrier The BAE Systems Sea Harrier is a British naval jet fighter, as well as a reconnaissance and attack aircraft. She first entered service with the Royal Navy in April of 1980 as the Sea Harrier FRS1. The FRS1 was developed from a ground attack aircraft, but she was able to prove herself very well in air-to-air combat during the Falklands War. During this war the FRS1 scored several kills against the Argentinean aircraft due to her newly acquired Sidewinder missiles. There were a total of 57 FRS1’s built between 1978 and 1988 and 22 of them have been written off since. However, there was another Sea Harrier built that was called the FA2 , that was developed from the FRS1, but had more emphasis on air-to-air capability. The main improvement in the FA2 was she had a Blue Vixen radar allowing the use of AIM-12 AMRAAM BVR missiles as well as a more improved avionics system and she came equipped with more flexible weapon loads. All of the 35 surviving FRS1’s were converted into FA2’s as well as 18 additional new ones were built. Only 2 FA2’s have been written off so far.
