It can rapidly deliver huge quantities of precision and non-precision weapons against any adversary, anywhere in the world, at any time. The Lancer can carry the largest payload of guided and unguided weapons for the United States Air Force. The B-1A was first manufactured in the 1970s as a replacement for the B-52. Four prototypes of this plane were developed in the mid 1970’s, but sadly the program was canceled in 1977. So none of these long-rang, high speed, strategic bombers were ever produced. However, in 1981 the Reagan Administration made sure this plane would get produced. They made some major changes including additional structure to increase payload up to 74,000 pounds, and improved radar and reduction of the radar cross section. They also extensively modified the inlet. As a result of this reduction the Lancer’s maximum speed was reduced to Mach 1.2. The maiden flight of the B-1B was in October of 1984. The first air force base to receive a B-1B was Dyess Air Force Base, Texas in June of 1985. This great plane currently holds 50 world records, including speed, payload, range, and time of climb in its class. What an Airplane! The B-1B Lancer is 146 feet long, 34 feet tall, with a wingspan of 137 feet. She weighs 190,000 pounds. Her max takeoff weight is 477,000 pounds, with a fuel capacity of 265,274 pounds, and a payload of 75,000 pounds. She can reach speed of 900 plus miles an hour which is equivalent to Mach 1.2. Her armament consist of 4 GBU-31 GPS-aided JDAM (both Mk-84 general purpose bombs and BLU-109 penetrating bombs) or 24 Mk-84 2,000-pound general purpose bombs; 8 Mk-85 naval mines; 84 Mk-82 500-pound general purpose bombs; 84 Mk-62 500-pound naval mines; 30 CBU-87, -89, -97 cluster munitions; 30 CBU-103/104/105 WCMD, 24 AGM-158 JASSMs or 12 AGM-154 JSOWs.
