Kennedy the C-141 StarLifter was built. President Kennedy’s first official business after he was inaugurated was to order the development of an all-jet transport that would extend the reach of our nation’s military forces. Thus Lockheed’s C-141 StarLifter was created. The StarLifter’s was designed to airlift combat forces over long distances, inject those forces and their equipment by airland or airdrop, re-supply employed forces, and extract sick and winded from hostile areas and transport them to medical facilities. The C-141 is also capable of air refueling and can transfer 23,592 gallons of fuel in about 26 minutes. This allows her to make non-stop flights and fewer fuel stops during her missions. The StarLifter cargo compartment can very simply be modified to perform 30 different missions. She can hold 200 troop or 155 filly equipped paratroops can sit in canvas side-facing seats, or 166 troops in rear-facing seats. The StarLifter is 168 feet and 4 inches long and stands 39 feet and 3 inches tall, with a wingspan of 160 feet. She can reach speeds of 500 miles per hour. Her max takeoff weight is 323,100 pounds.
