F-4J Phantom II US Navy VF-142 Model Airplane: Dimensions and Features: * Loaded Style Model with Bombs and/or Missles * Scale 1:45 * Length is 17.0 inches * Wing span is 11.0 inches * Furnished with desk stand * Kiln dried mahogany * Hand carved and finished * All details are hand painted * No decals are used F-4J Phantom II "VF-142" Airplane History: The F-4J Phantom II was the last version of the Phantom line to be placed in production for the United States Navy and the United States Marine Corps. She was designed to follow up of the original F-4B. This new version corrected some inefficiency that had arisen over the years. There were only a three YF-4Js that were converted from existing F-4B’s airframes. The first F-4J flew on June 4, 1965 and the very first production F-4J flew on May 27, 1966. At the end of her production run there was only a total of 522 F-4J’s that were built. The V-F 142 Ghostriders was a US Navy fighter squadron that was established on February 4, 1953. Ten years later the squadron transitioned to a nF-4 Phantom II and were given the name Ghostriders. However, it wasn’t until 1969 that the Ghostriders transitioned to the F-4J and soon after headed out for a new cruise with the Constellation. The VF-142 squadron was later awarded the Naval Aviation Safety Award for 1969-1970. The VF-142 Ghostrider squadron was disestablished on April 30 1995.
