She was also commonly used for intelligence gathering. The Warning Star was first produced in 1955 and she was retired from service in 1978. However, there was one single specially-modified EW that remained in service until 1982. There were 232 EC-121 Warning Stars made. The Warning Star was used very frequently in Southeast Asia between April 16, 1965 and August 15, 1973. Her main role was to support Operation Rolling Thunder and Operation Linebacker/Linebacker II. Where she provided radar warning and limited the airborne control of the United States Air Force fighter forces. The Warning Star was 113 feet 7 inches long and 24 feet 9 inches tall, with a wingspan of 1230 feet. Her take off weight was 62,210 pounds and her max takeoff weight was 143,000 pounds. Her max speed was 299 miles per hour with a cruising speed of 255 miles per hour and her range was 4,250 miles. It took a flight crew of 6 and 11-5 radar crew members to operate this aircraft.
