Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby Flying Fortress B-17G Article:

It is a very well known fact that the Flying Fortress B-17 is one of the most famous airplanes ever built. This amazing aircraft first flew on July 28, 1935, but it wasn’t until the United States entered World War II that the B-17 Flying Fortress’s were in demand. They actually didn’t manufacture that many until World War II. That’s when the production of this one of a kind airplane took off and 12,726 of them were made. The B-17 was best known for daylight strategic bombing of German industrial targets.

In March of 1944 a B-17G assigned to “The Ragged Irregulars” the 91st Bomb Group that was based at Bassingbourn, England. This is where “Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby” got her name. Her crewed named her this after a popular song. Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby flew 24 successful combat missions during World War II. Just like many other B-17G’s she received flak damage, hers totaled seven times. Her last flight was on May 29, 1944, unfortunately, an engine problem occurred forcing the crew to land in neutral Sweden. This is where the crew and the plane were interned.

Thankfully, in 1968 Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby was located in France abandoned. The French government was gracious enough to present Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby to the U.S. Air Force. Shoo Shoo Shoo Baby was moved to Dover Air Force Base, Delaware on July 1978 so she could be restored to her natural state. After over 50,000 man-hours of restoration she was finished. She was then flown to the U.S. Air Force Museum in Dayton, Ohio where she remains on display today.
