The main reason for this plane's existence was to have an aircraft that had a very long range. The B-24 Airplane lived up to her reputation and gained a distinguished war record with her operations in European, Pacific, African and Middle Eastern theaters. Due to her long range capabilities the B-24 Liberator was also used for maritime patrol, antisubmarine work, reconnaissance, tank, cargo and personal transport. There were 18,475 B-24 Liberator made but telling them apart was easy with the all popular nose art each one adorned or each squadron adorned. One of B-24’s had the name of Tubarao, which means shark in Portuguese. This particular B-24 completed her 20th mission and was declared “war-weary” and in January of 1945. She was converted into the 491st third assembly ship. Also, she replaced the B-24J Rage in Heaven, which had crashed and been destroyed.
