This plane was responsible for dropping the first atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, which effectively put an end to World War II. The B-29 Superfortress didn’t end her career in World War II. She was once again used in the Korean War and flew more than 20,000 sorties in which she dropped a total of 200,000 tons of bombs over North Korean targets. Of the 3,970 B-29 Superfortress that were built, only one is actually airworthy. She can be found at the Commemorative Air Force in Midland, Texas. This B-29 goes by the name of “Fifi”. You can catch Fifi in action at air shows in the spring, summer, and fall where millions of people come to see the amazing piece of history in person. During the winter months she is kept at The Commemorative Air Force in midland, Texas where she received routine maintenance. She is usually put on display for the public between November and May.
