When the United States entered World War II they were in desperate need of an aircraft that could drop paratroopers that could do gilder towing, and could conduct air supply and cargo lifts. The DC-3 fit the bill and was modified and given the name of C-47. Just like almost every plane in the United States Army they were given nicknames so they could be spotted in a crowd easily. The C-47 known as “Buzz Buggy” was flown by the 81st Troop Carrier Squadron, 436th Troop Carrier Group that was based at Membury in England during March 1944-February 1945. Buss Buggy also took part in the airborne assault on Southern France that was based at Voltone, Italy in July and August of 1944. The mission tally on Buzz Buggy also suggests that she has some participation in the Normandy, Southern France, Nijmegen and Bastogne operations. She was used as both paratroop carrier and as a gilder tug. References: http://www.geocities.com/cacdakota/index.html
