At the end of production in 1944 there were a total of 13,738 P-40’s built. There were several variants of the P-40 built. One of those was the Kittyhawks, which was given to P-40D models and any other later models. The Kittyhawks first saw combat in 1942 when they were given upgraded with some major improvements. The last Kittyhawk model that was built was the P-40N. She was the best model of the P-40’s. She was upgraded with a stretched rear fuselage and designers went to great links to shave off any excess weight to improve her rate of climb. She also holds the record for being the only P-40 to reach speeds of 380 miles per hour. The P-40 Kittyhawk was 31.67 feet long and stood 12.33 feet tall with a wingspan of 37.33 feet. Her empty weight was 6,350 pounds and her loaded weight was 8,810 pounds. Her max speed was 380 miles per hour and her range was 650 miles. References: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Curtiss_P-40
