They built a total of 12,571 planes including all the variants and different models. Each plane cost a staggering $1,500,000 to build. She was produced from 1940-1952 and her primary users were the United States navy, United States Marine Corps, Royal Navy and Royal New Zealand Air Force. On of the popular models of this aircraft was the F4U-5N also known as Night Fighter due to the fact that she was equipped with radar equipment. There were a total of 214 of these units produced. Along with the advanced radar equipment the F4U-5N had a more powerful Pratt & Whitney engine with two stage superchargers with a rated horsepower of 2,450. She was also given a more improved blower control, cowl flaps, intercooler doors and oil cooler, spring tabs for the evaluator and rubber, as well as a modernized cockpit. The F4U-1A was 33 feet 4 inches long and 16 feet 1 inch tall with a 41 foot wingspan. Her empty weight was 8,982 pounds and her loaded weight was 14,000 pounds. Her max speed was 425 miles per hour and her range was 1,015 miles. She was operated by one crew member the pilot and had an armament that consisted of guns, rockets and bombs.
