This is our regular version of this model, does not come with bombs or extra fuel tank under wing. Kawasaki KI-61 Airplane, one of the famous aircraft used by the Japanese in World War II. Our KI-61 model airplane is hand carved and hand finished, made of solid mahogany. All details are hand painted, no decals are used. Furnished with desk stand. Ki-61 Hein Airplane History: The Kawasaki Ki-61 Hein or “Swallow” was a great Japanese aircraft that was used in World War II. The design of the plane was so unlike any other Japanese fighter that when she entered combat in New Guinea in June of 1943, the Allies thought it was an Italian designed aircraft. Because of this reason the Allies gave the Ki-61 the codename of “Tony”, however, by the summer of 1943 the Allies knew the Ki-61 was indeed a Japanese designed plane. The Ki-61 was equipped with a air-cooled radials that optimized maneuverability, and she also had a liquid cooled in-line engine that gave her more speed and power. The Ki-61 proved to be successful during the first part of the war, but as the war went on the Ki-61 found herself outclassed, even so she still carried on until the end of the war. The Ki-61 was 27 feet 9 inches long and stood 12 feet 2 inches tall with a wingspan of 34 feet 5 inches and a wing area of 174.4 sq. feet. Her empty weight was 4,740 pounds and her laded weight was 6,063 pounds. Her max speed was 348 miles per hour and her service ceiling was 32,800 feet.
