Grumman G-5 Red Rippers Model Airplane Early biplane aircraft used by the United States Navy Named: "Red Rippers". G-5 model hand carved and hand finished All details are hand painted, no decals are used. Prop driven aircraft Made of solid kiln dried mahogany. Colors: Gray, yellow, blue, black and white colors. Made in 1:24 scale. Size is 12.125 inches long with a 17.0 inch wingspan. Furnished with desk stand. Grumman FF1G-5 Airplane Article: The U.S. Navy started their relationship with the Grumman Aircraft Engineering Corporation on March 28, 1931, when they put their order in for the prototype of the FF-1 (G-5). The G-5 is a two-seat biplane fighter. This aircraft was the U.S. Navy’s first airplane to be equipped with retraceable landing gear. FF-1 (G-5) which was known as “Fifi”, made her maiden flight on December 29, 1931. She was introduced to the world in June of 1933 and was delivered to the troops that same month. Fifi was only produced from 1932-1934 with 120 of them been built. She was retired in 1940. However, the Canadian Car & Foundry Co acquired a license to manufacture the FF-1 and built 57 of them. She served with the Royal Canadian Air Force from September 1940 through April of 1942. Fifi was 24 feet 6 inches long and 11 feet 1 inch tall with a wingspan of 34 feet 6 inches. Her empty weight was 3,098 pounds and max takeoff weight was 4,677 pounds. The fastest she could ever go was 207 miles per hour and her range was 685 miles.
