Junkers Ju-52 / 3M, Circa 1933, Olive Drab Camou Article:

Junkers is responsible for manufacturing the Junkers Ju 52 in 1931. She went on her maiden flight on October 13, 1930 and was later introduced into service in 1931. Her main purpose was to be a military transport aircraft but she could serve as a bomber when needed. She was manufactured for twenty-one years with a total of 4,845 of them been built. She was such a great asset to the German Air Force and to all the other users that she stayed in service until the 1980’s.

The first Ju 52 that was built only came equipped with a single engine. Junkers soon realized these models was too underpowered so they went to the drawing board and came up with the Ju 52/3M which us equipped with three Pratt & Whitney Hornet radial engines. However, the later production models receive the BMW 132 engines. The Ju 52/3M was used in the Spanish Civil War as both a bomber and transport aircraft. She also was used from bombing raids on the invasion fo rPoland in September of 1939. Sadly, a lot of Ju 52’s were shot down when transporting supplies. As of today there are four on display in museum and one that remains in operation at the Dubendorf airport.

The Junkers Ju 52 nicknamed Tante Ju-“Aunite Ju” and “Iron Annie” was 62 feet long and 14 feet 10 inches tall with a wingspan of 95 feet 10 inches. Her empty weight was 14,325 pounds and her loaded weight was 20,270 pounds. Her max speed was 165 miles per hour at sea level and her cruise speed was 132 miles per hour and she had a range of 540 miles.
