Henschel HS 123 Airplane Article: The Henschel Hs 123 was manufactured by Henschel in 1935.She was a single-seat biplane dive bomber and close-support attack aircraft that was only flown by the German Luftware. She saw most of her action in the Spanish Civil War and the early stages of World War II. She was withdrawn from frontline services in the spring of 1944 once her design was considered obsolete. It was quit strange that Henschel designed and developed the Henschel Hs 123 because they were originally a German locomotive manufacturer. Shortly after Hitler gained power in German Henschel decided to embark on designing an aircraft to meet the 1933 dive bomber requirements for the Lutfware. Thus, Henschel first aircraft the Hs 123 was born. The Hs123 proved to be a rugged yet reliable aircraft that could be used as an effective combat weapon. However, there were no Hs 123’s that are known to have survived. The Hs 123 was 27 feet 4 inches long and stood 10 feet 6 inches tall with a wingspan of 34 feet 5.5 inches. Her empty weight was 3,307 pounds with her loaded weight being 4,884 pounds. Her max speed was 211 miles per hour and her combat radius was 533 miles. Her armament consisted of 2x 7.92 mm MG 17 machine guns and MG FF cannons. She could also hold up to 992 pounds of bombs under her wings and under her fuselage.
