JN-4 Jenny The Curtiss Aeroplane Company of Hammondsport, New York which later became Curtiss Aeroplane and Motor Company is responsible for designing and manufacturing the Curtiss JN-4 Jenny. The Jenny’s were a series of biplane’s that were used by the Army and Navy as trainers. The JN-4 Jenny was first introduced into service in 1915. And she holds the great honor of being one of North America’s most famous World War I aircrafts. She was widely used during World War I to train beginner pilots. The Canadian’s had their version of the JN-4 which they called Canuck and the U.S called theirs Jenny. She was equipped with two seats one for the student and one for the instructor. At the end of production there were 6,813 JN-4’s built. Jenny was 27 feet 4 inches long and stood 9 feet 10 ½ inches tall with a wingspan of 43 feet 7 ¾ inches. Her empty weight was 1,390 pounds and her max takeoff weight was 1,920 pounds. Her max speed was 75 miles per hour with a cruise speed of 60 miles per hour.
