Features | Benefits | Specifications: Our Handley Page model is hand carved and hand finished, made of solid mahogany. All details are hand painted, no decals are used. Our prop driven bomber airplane is made of solid kiln dried mahogany. Olive color. Made in 1:50 scale. Size is 11.75 inches long with a 18.375 inch wingspan. Furnished with desk stand. Handley Page O/400 Airplane Article: Britain entered the war in August of 1914 and ironically the Royal Air Force has not even been formed yet. To top that off the British Army and Royal Navy were both competing for control of aircraft. Handley Page a fairly new aviation company offered their services to both army and navy. They came up with idea and design for the O/100 or Type O as it is often refereed to, and the prototype first flew on December 7, 1915 and a total of 46 O/100’s were built. Due to the success of the O/100’s a new and improved version with more powerful engines and refinements was produced and designated the O/400. The O/400 first flew in 1918 with 554 of them had been built. They had tremendous success in the war being able to carry a new 1,650 pound bomb that was able to be deployed with force. After the war was over Britain continued using the O/400’s until they were replaced by the Vickers Vimy at the end of 1919. The O/400’s had such great success that for many years whenever someone saw a large aircraft they would call it a “Handley Page”. The Type O was 62 feet 10 ¼ inches long and stood 22 feet high with a wingspan of 100 feet. Her max takeoff weight was 13,360 pounds and her max speed was 97.5 miles per hour, with a range of 700 miles. Her armament consisted of 5x 0.303 in Lewis guns (2 on nose Scraff ring, 2 on dorsal position and 1 at vertical hatch) and 2,000 pounds of bombs. She was crewed by a crew of 4 to 5 men.
