She has two engines mounted on her underwing pylons and the third engine is located at the base of the vertical stabilizer. In the 1970’s Delta Airliners enter the “wide-body” jet era and purchased five Boeing 747’s to use to fly their new long-haul high density routes. Because the economy slowed down in the early 1970’s Delta found that their 747’s were too large for their routes and sold them a few years later. Soon after the 747’s were gone, Delta leased five DC-10’s from United Airlines to use as a stopgap until their large order of the new Lockheed L-1011 TriStars were delivered. The DC-10’s are 182 feet 3 inches long and 58 feet 1 inch tall, with a wingspan of 155 feet 4 inches. Her max takeoff weight is 430,000 pounds and her empty weight is 240,171 pounds. Her cruise speed is Mach 0.82 which is 564 miles per hour and her max speed is mach 0.88 which is 610 miles per hour. Her range is 3,800 miles and her fuel capacity is 21,700 gallons. It takes a crew of three to operate this aircraft and she holds 380 first class passengers and 250 second class passengers. References: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delta_Air_Lines
