Martin Company in Baltimore, Maryland. There were only three of these rare aircraft built and all of them were built and sold to Pan American Airways. These boats were called the China Clipper, Philippine Clipper and the Hawaii Clipper. However, there was a forth Martin-130 built and sold to the Soviet Union called the Russian Clipper. These fourth aircraft was identical to the previous three except she was equipped with a twin vertical stabilizer. The Martin M-130 was an all metal flying boat that was designed with streamline aerodynamics and very powerful engines. The M-130 saw her first flight on December 30, 1934 without any problems. The China Clipper first set sail on November 22, 1935. The Philippine Clipper first went into service on October 14, 1936 flying from the United States to Hong Kong. The Hawaii Clipper saw her first flight later that month. Strangely enough the Hawaii clipper disappeared in July of 1938 losing nine crewmen and six passengers. The China Clipper as they all become known as was 90 feet 101/2 inches long and 24 feet 7 inches tall, with a wingspan of 130 feet. Her max speed was 180 miles per hour and her cruise speed was 130 miles per hour and she had an outstanding range of 3,200 miles.
