Lockheed than manufactured the plane and true to Lockheed in those days the L-1049G was sold well to the military as a troop transport and radar picket plane. However, she wasn’t too well received in the commercial market. A total of 856 Connie’s were produced from 1943-1958. The L-1049G Constellation was a slightly smaller plane with less powerful motors, by this time engineers were able to stretch and modify the design the Constellation which was affectionately known as “Connie”. The newer version of the Constellation became known as “Super Connie” was now capable of flying higher speeds and longer distances. Although she still had her limitations, TWA was able to use the Super Connie for non-stop coast to coast flights. The Super Connie was 116 feet 2 inches long and stood 24 feet 9inches tall with a wingspan of 126 feet 1 inches. Her empty weight was 79,700 pounds and her max take off weight was 137,500 pounds. Her max speed was 377 miles per hour and her range was 5,400 miles. She typically had a crew of 5 and could hold anywhere from 62-95 passengers.
