The AH-64 Apache is the United States Army’s primary attack helicopter, which is an American all-weather day-night military attack helicopter that is the successor to the great AH-1 Cobra. By late 1981 the AH-64 was given the name “Apache” keeping tradition with the Army’s use of Native American tribal names for their helicopters. Hughes Helicopters was approved to make full scale models of this helicopter in 1982, by 1983 the first production helicopter was rolled out of Hughes Helicopter facility.

The Apaches long waited combat mission finally happened in 1989 when it was first used in the invasion of Panama. From there they played very important roles in several Middle Eastern wars, including the Gulf War, Operation Enduing Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom in Iraq. The Apaches strength is hunting down and destroying tanks and armored vehicles. During Desert Storm the Apaches destroyed over 500 tanks, numerous armored personnel carries and several other vehicles. Remarkable during Operation Iraqi Freedom 33 Apaches employed on the March 24, 2003 attack and 30 sustained damage all but one was able to complete their mission and return safely back to base.

This tough helicopter carries 2 men a pilot, and a gunner. They are 58.17 feet long, 12.7 feet tall, with a rotor diameter of 48 feet, a disc area of 1,809.5 feet squared; they have an empty weight of 11,387 pounds, a max takeoff weight of 21,000 pounds, a fuselage length of 49 feet and 5 inches and a 4 blades main rotor and a 4 blade tail rotor.

The Apache never exceed 227 miles per hour but its max speed is 165 miles per hour, with a service ceiling of 21.000 feet, and rate of climb at 2,500 feet a minute. Now for the armament, the Apache was equipped with 1x M230 30 mm cannon and 1,200 rounds, Hydra 70 FFAR rockets and a combination of AGM-114 Hellfire, AIM-92 Stinger and AIM-9Sidewinder missiles.
