Includes desk stand. Supercobra Airplane Article: Whenever something is given a name and super happens to be in front of it you know it is destiny for great things. As you very well know the AH-1W SuperCobra Helicopter definitely falls into that category. The AH-1 SuperCobra is a twin-engine attack helicopter based on the US Army’s AH-1 Cobra. However, there are several members of the Cobra family. The AH-1J SeaCobra, the AH-1T improved SeaCobra and the AH-1W Supercobra, which is the backbone of the United States Marine Corp’s attack helicopter fleet. Sadly, the AH-1W is going to be replaced by the AH-1Z Viper upgrade in the next decade. In the early 1990’s the U.S. Marine Corp wanted a new navalized helicopter, but was denied any funding. So they turned to pursued an even more powerful version of the current AH-1T. They modified the fire control systems to carry and fire AIM-9 Sidewinder and AGM-114 Hellfire missiles. This new version was given the name AH-1W. This remarkable helicopter saw most of its action during the Gulf War. It destroyed 97 tanks, 104 armored personal carries and vehicles and two anti-aircraft artillery sites during the 100-hour ground campaign. This great helicopter carried two people a pilot and a gunner. It is 44 feet and 7 inches long and stands 13 feet and 5 inches tall, with a rotor diameter of 48 feet, a disc area of 530.83ft squared. Its empty weight is 10,920 pounds and its max takeoff weight is 14,750 pounds. The rotor system for the AH-1W has 2 blades on the main rotor and 2 blades on the tail rotor. Its m ax speed is 190 knots or 218 miles per hour, range was 365 miles service ceiling is 12,200 feet and rate of climb is 1,620 feet per minute. Now to the fun part the armament. The AH-1W had 1 3-barrled 20 mm cannon with 750 rounds ammo capacity, 2.75 in Hydra rockets mounted in a 7 shot or 19 shot launchers, 5 in Zuni rockets-8 rockets in two 4 round launchers, up to 8 missiles mounted in a two-missiles launcher and the AIM-9 Sidewinder Anti-Aircraft Missles-1 mounted on each outboard hard point.
