The Jayhawk is based on the successful helicopter SH-60 Seahawk, which is a variant of the US Army’s UH-60 Black Hawk. The HH-60 Jayhawk has many roles besides a search and rescue helicopter. She is also used fro drug interdiction, cargo lift, and other special operations. The HH-60 Jayhawk was developed specifically for the Unites States Coast Guard to replace the aging Sikorsky Aircraft HH-3F Pelican in 1986. The Jayhawk is still currently active and is mainly being used by the United States Coast Guard. There were only 42 HH-60 Jayhawk’s built, 35 of them are in active status with the other 7 being kept in storage of for support roles. In January of 2007 an upgrade program began on the HH-60 Jaysawks. She was given the new name of MH-60J. The HH-60 Jayhawk is 65 feet long and stands 17 feet height with a rotor diameter of 54 feet. Her empty weight s 14,500 pounds and her max takeoff weight is 21,884 pounds. Her max speed is205 miles per hour with a cruise speed of 160 miles per hour. Her armament consist of 2x M240B 7.62x51 mm medium machine guns or 2x Browning M2 12.7x99 mm HMG forward of doors All of this is done by a crew of four, the pilot, co-pilot and two flight crew.
