Gee Bee stands for Granville Brothers. Granville Brothers Aircraft was an aircraft manufacturer in operation from 1929 until their bankruptcy in 1934. They were located at the Springfield Airport in Springfield, Massachusetts. The Gee Bee "R-1" model was designed and built specifically for the 1932 Races. As part of the Super Sportsters series models, it was known to be one of the fastest land planes in the world.
