The P-39 Airacobra was a principal American fighter that started her service in World War II. She saw her first flight on April 6, 1938 and was introduced in 1941. At the end of production there were a total of 9,584 built. Her primary users were the United States Army Air Force, Soviet Air Force and the Royal Air Force. The P-39 did have a few problems; she was handicapped in the design department. She lacked a turbo-supercharger, which limited her to low-altitude work. However, the Soviet Air Force seemed to have the most luck with this fighter. They are credited with the highest number of individual kills attributed to any U.S. fighter type. Also the British were the ones that called their P-39’s Airacobra. All P-39’s are retires as of today and only three remain in flying condition. The P-39 Airacobra was 30 feet 2 inches long and stood 12 feet 5 inches tall with a wingspan of 34 feet. Her empty weight was 5,347 pounds and her loaded weight was 7,347 pounds. Her max speed was 376 miles per hour and her range was 1,098 miles.
