B-29 Super Fortress Model Aircraft Article:

The B-29 Superfortress was a four-engine heavy propeller aircraft that was used by the United States Military in World War II as well as the Korean War. The name “Superfortress” came from its well known and great predecessor the B-17 Flying Fortress.

The B-29 was one of the largest aircraft that was used in World War II. It was also considered one of the most advanced bombers of its time, due to the fact that they were equipped with pressurized cabins, a central fire-control system and remote-controlled machine gun turrets. The B-29 was designed to be a daytime high-altitude bomber, but she managed to fly low-altitude nighttime incendiary bombing missions as well. She was mostly used as the primary aircraft against Japan in the last months of World War II. Her biggest claim to fame is carrying and dropping the atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Her services didn’t end after the war was over unlike most bombers. The B-29 was used as flying television transmitters for Stratovison. The B-29 was finally retired in the 1960’s with 3,960 of them being built between 1943 and 1946. Most of the B-29’s were scrapped, but a few were saved and can been seen in museums today. You can see one in person if you visit The March Field Air Museum in Riverdale, California. They have a Boeing B-29A Superfortress Flagship 500 that flew 11 combat missions during World War II.
